SELRAHC
Closing out his monitor, the blue and white robed
Watcher turns to stare off into space. Selrahc watches as
the Phoenix comet bounces across Earth's atmosphere
several times before it is caught in the planet's gravity
well. Like a huge slingshot, the space stone is whipped
around the planet and thrown off into space as
centrifigul forces carry it past the moon.

"This is an
omen?"

Selrahc turns away from his clear domed ceiling, and
stares down at a humanoid robot beside him. An exact
replica of a human wrought in iron, the sentient seeming
robot also watches skyward.

"It could be the
birth of a new race has begun. A new race and a new era
for A WORLD WITHOUT HEROES!"

The Watcher
Selrahc turns back to his computers, sending a signel to
his fellow Watchers. Like all his past transmissions
this one updates what he has seen. And what he dreads
will come...

Elsewhere: Phoenix Rising!/ Siren'sSong

"Kent Brockman LIVE from Springfield, as we watch thefantabulous show before us. This very cromulent event hasbeen marked by all as an omen for the comingcentury."

Behind the almost cartoonish commentator, thetelevision camera homes in on a smudge of red along the
night's horizon. The camera takes a second to focus,
before the operator activates the zoom. For a brief
second, a phoenix like effect covers the
sky.

"What we're seeing now is the Phoenix comet as it
crosses path with good ol' mother Earth. Professor
Frink?"

Cutting in on the shot, the reporter forces the
camera man to switch focus again. The scientist before
him holding a strange black box spouting radar dishes
and many small antenna. Only a single dial, and meter
appear as controls.

"Oh, uhhh what we have here
<urg> is the Phoenix comet. It's orbit has brought it
across the night sky just in time for New Nears. It will
<gahk> skip across the atmosphere, leaving a series of
heat washes, that will no doubt <wow> startle
many!"

As the scientist speaks the comet "skips" off the
atmosphere for the first time. Hitting the protective air
cushion around the planet, the comet throws off fiery
wings as it bounces back spaceward. Like a giant
skipping stone, the comet hits the atmosphere several
times before finally it continues off into
space.

"Well, that was a big waste of my, Oh! HI! Kent Brockman
here as we watch the departure of the Phoenix comet.
Stay with us as we switch over to the opening of the
newest Krusty Burger!"

Fading to
black...

"What's that glowing stuff falling from the sk...?"
